Sparx Skate Sharpener Wins Prestigious GOOD DESIGN Award for Outstanding Product Design

Sparx Hockey Inc, inventors of the Sparx Skate Sharpener, a piece of equipment that allows hockey players to sharpen their skates at the professional-level wherever and whenever they need to, has been honored as a recipient of the 2016 GOOD DESIGN Awards.

Every year, designers and manufacturers in about 50 nations are honored for their singular achievements in producing hallmarks of contemporary design.

To solve the problem Layton had identified, his team needed to design and build a machine that, first and foremost, produced a flawless result. It also had to be easy to operate for anyone even if they had no prior knowledge of how to sharpen skates.

The Sparx Skate Sharpener debuted on Kickstarter in March of 2015 after nearly 2 years of research, design an development. The Kickstarter campaign was fully funded in less than 5 days and in the 22 months since then, Sparx has sold over 2000 skate sharpeners. Owners can be found in 49 of the 50 United States and all but 2 Canadian provinces and territories. From families to the pros, players of all levels are sharpening their skates with Sparx.
