Shattuck-St. Mary’s Hockey Names Sparx Hockey Official Skate Sharpener

Nation’s Top Hockey Development Program Chooses Sparx for Skate Sharpening Needs

Sparx Hockey, inventors of the innovative Sparx Sharpener, today was named the Official Skate Sharpener of Shattuck-St. Mary’s Hockey. As part of the partnership, Sparx Hockey will provide Shattuck-St. Mary’s Hockey Center of Excellence with skate sharpening equipment and supplies beginning with the 2021-22 season.

Sparx Hockey has become one of the fastest growing hockey brands in the world, with thousands of teams and at-home consumers around the globe now sharpening with the company’s flagship product, the Sparx Sharpener. In addition to the many professional and amateur teams using Sparx – including more than 25 National Hockey League teams – numerous rink operators and retailers are also experiencing the precision, accuracy and performance of automated sharpening with the Sparx Sharpener.

“We have seen several of our players prefer the Sparx Sharpener over other sharpening options and many of our players already own their own Sparx Sharpener and have it on campus with them,” said Ben Umhoefer, Director of Hockey, Shattuck-St. Mary’s. “With so many players already using the technology, it only made sense for our program to partner with Sparx Hockey to provide the school with sharpeners and supplies for our home facilities as well as to travel with on the road.”

Shattuck-St. Mary’s Hockey Center of Excellence is an internationally known hockey development program for male and female student-athletes in grades 7-12. The program is one of the most successful in the world at combining elite-level hockey training, development and competition with the demanding academics of a college-prep school. A total of nine teams play at Shattuck-St Mary’s, including five boys teams (U14, U15, U16, AAA, Prep) and four girls teams (U16, U19, Prep).

As one of the nation’s premier hockey programs, Shattuck-St. Mary’s has produced nearly 100 NHL draft picks, more than 650 college hockey players and 19 Olympians (including six gold medals). Shattuck-St. Mary’s alumni include Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Zach Praise, Jonathan Toews, Amanda Kessel, Brianna Decker, Jocelyne Lamoureux and Monique Lamoureux to name a few.

“To have a top hockey program like Shattuck-St. Mary’s choose Sparx Hockey for its sharpening needs further validates the Sparx Sharpener as an elite skate sharpening solution for teams as well as the at-home consumer,” said Steve Jones, Vice President, Marketing, Sparx Hockey. “We look forward to partnering with both the boys’ and girls’ programs to ensure all Shattuck St. Mary’s players play at their absolute best every time they take the ice.”
